Venue Change
The Austin Forum on Technology & Society is changing its monthly presentation event venue to enable (resume) streaming and recording of events more easily—and thus make it easier for people in Austin and beyond to benefit from the presentations from our excellent speakers!
Starting on September 3, the Austin Forum will move its monthly presentation events to the new Center for Government and Civic Service at the historic Austin Community College Rio Grande campus. The Center for Government and Civic Service, led by Bryan Port, is excited to offer its venue for our excellent programming, and its AV team and resources will allow us to resume livestreaming our events and recording them. The Austin Forum had been livestreaming and recording presentation events since the pandemic ended until early 2024, but the Austin Central Library does not provide this service or the technologies to do it, so our team’s efforts to make this work were always stressful and sometimes suffered from quality issues due to hacked solutions. In the Center for Government and Civic Service, the center’s AV systems and staff are prepared to live stream and record events, which will enable the Austin Forum team to focus on providing the highest quality content. We hope that everyone who can make it to this great campus will do so, which is only 11 blocks from the Austin Central Library (so a similar commute—and parking will now be free!). The pre-event gathering and the post-event networking will continue to be effective ways to meet new collaborators and professional contacts and to learn more about the evening’s topic through discussion and follow-up conversations.
We are excited about this new partnership with Austin Community College and the Center for Government and Civic Service, and we know you will enjoy this new partnership as well whether you attend in person or catch the livestream. We will reach more people around the world again, and we will again start posting recordings to our YouTube channel for those who miss events, want to share them with others, or want to rewatch to capture every detail. (We plan to grow and improve our YouTube channel this fall—more information on that is coming soon.)
Please join us on September 3 at ACC Rio Grande’s Center for Government and Civic Service for a stimulating conversation about the state and future of the computer chip sector that powers most aspects of our lives and society. We look forward to seeing everyone as we celebrate a new partnership and venue!
