Join us for a special event at the Austin Energy Headquarters located at 4815 Mueller Blvd, Austin, TX 78723. Doors and pre-presentation activities—tech (including VR) demos, live music from Austin local, Amy Atchley, and Torchy's—start at 5:15, so come early! The first 50 people will also receive a free t-shirt. After the main presentation, we will have time for audience Q&A. The in-person attendee who asks the best question will win a free SXSW badge! If you'd like to continue the conversation, we invite you to join us at BD Riley's starting at 8:00 p.m. for networking and drinks (first round on us) after the event. Event Description Electricity powers our homes, businesses, and increasingly transportation. It is an integral part of our everyday lives, and as electricity and the technology behind it advances, it will have far-reaching effects on infrastructure and society. During this moderated presentation, we will discuss the most promising technological advancements in the future of electricity, the Austin Climate Equity Plan (one of the most aggressive city-based climate action roadmaps in the world), what technologies are being deployed to address local and state-wide outages of the grid, and more. This moderated presentation will conclude with recommendations for individuals and organizations, followed by questions from the audience. Parking at Austin Energy Headquarters will be open for all guests on event day until 8:30 p.m. No cars can be left In the Austin Energy Headquarters garage overnight. If guests need to move their cars after the event, there will be free street parking (free after 8:00 p.m.), or parking Is available for $1 per hour In the Aldrich St. Garage. Please reference the Alridch street parking map here. In-person attendees will also receive all the Webex information in case for any reason you decide to attend virtually instead. Virtual attendance details can be found below. Online via Webex All virtual attendees will be able to stream the event live via Webex. Karl leads the Electric Vehicles & Emerging Technologies Team at Austin Energy, the 3rd largest city-owned electric utility in the country whose EV program was recognized as “Drive Electric Utility of the Year” by Plugin America and “EVisionary City” of North America by EDTA. Karl has been a Principal Investigator on over ten innovation grants on grid modernization, electrification, and leads the utility’s “5 EV Pillar Strategy” advancing outcome-based transportation electrification through infrastructure, fleet electrification, grid modernization, customer experience, and equity. Karl serves on several boards to include The Energy Thought Summit, Austin Forum on Technology & Society, CS Week EVCx Forum, and a co-chair of the Austin Climate & Equity Working Group.
An active speaker and research contributor, Karl is co-author of "Smart Cities; Applications & Standards” a book published by Springer. Previous roles include the utility’s interim Chief Information Officer, a Managing Director at Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, and a Captain in the US Army Corps of Engineers. |
