Event Summary
The powerful combination of Internet connectivity and laptops, websites and social media platforms, and ubiquitous cellular access and smart phones has enabled global information sharing of unprecedented scale and value—but also serves as powerful enabler for spreading misinformation and (more dangerously) disinformation. Generative AI tools add to this potential powder keg by making it easier than effort to create high-quality disinformation to spread on these platforms and services. To understand the societal implications of disinformation, join us to hear from author Barbara McQuade about this growing problem as she reads from, and signs copies of, her new book: “Attack from Within: How Disinformation Is Sabotaging America” at BookPeople. This event is from 7-8pm, after which we will move to Whole Foods for coffee and conversation about the book and what technology (and other) solutions may be able to help combat this danger.
