Hailing from the Missouri Ozarks, expanded her cooking (and eating) skills on the West Coast and Spain before settling in Austin, where she works as the food writer for the Austin American-Statesman and Austin360.com. Since she took on the food beat last year, Broyles has brought the newspaper’s food coverage into the 21st century with her blog, Relish Austin (austin360.com/relishaustin), multimedia videos, food meet-ups, Twitter (@broylesa) and other social media sites such as Facebook.

Foodies flock to the Internet not just to read blogs on cooking, eating and growing food; they want to get to know others who enjoy food as much as they do. Social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook have helped connect them with each other, and other technology, such as mashup and online video editing programs, is dramtically improving the way people learn cooking skills and find recipes and restaurants.
